L-6 Days

Well, this was all decided a bit quickly (last Saturday actually) so we set ourselves 10 days before departing! What the hell, we thought. We have been thinking about this for long enough and this is as good as any other time to give it a shot. The intentions are good! The planning.. a bit sketchy at the moment. But hey.

OK so far, I have bought a stack of bike spare parts, hopefully I will not need many of them… spare rotors, spare brake pads, 2 sets of tyres (bringing two sets of wheels), a spare saddle I already had, tubes (even if I run tubeless), a Di2 battery, 4 waxed chains. I am sure there will be more to think aside from the usual bits and tools.

I am also designing the routes for the first 4-5 days. I do not know how much or little I will be able to ride every day. Day after day doing 100km+ is an unknown for me, so I will have to play it by ear. At this stage, I will take a day off every 5, but I really do not know how I will respond. I feel pretty good. My weight is 59.5kg. We have been debating whether to bring scales with us (extra weight!), so probably not. I will need to make sure I fuel properly during the rides and after.

The scariest bit is the Nullarbor traverse, which at this stage looks like it will be in January (!!!). But it’s a few months away, so who knows how we will get there (and if!!!). All positive thoughts ATM 😉
