A couple of days ago Anna came up with the “mad” idea of riding a bike around Australia. I immediately agreed and offered to drive the support vehicle. This notion has fired us up and for now, we are both extremely enthusiastic whilst recognising that there are a thousand reasons why it might not happen. For a start, she will have to quit her job or sell the company she currently runs. She has always been attracted to the big athletic achievements of people like Diana Nyad and why shouldn’t she have a crack at her own big athletic mountain.
I figure my job will be to take care of the logistics of the expedition: vehicles, food, medical, repairs, cooking etc. I have always harboured a secret desire to sail around Australia or the world, having filled my younger head with hundreds of sailing books on that theme. I’m a bit old for that now but I can certainly drive a truck around the country with a small amount of expertise. I love expeditions and the outback so why not.
I’m currently looking at all the transport options and starting to make lists of stuff we’ll need and problems we’ll need to solve.
