A big day for a few reasons. First of all we “turned left” and are now headed more or less to the West towards Normanton on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Second, this required a big ride with a massive climb for The Athlete. As usual, she has taken it in her stride. A shower, a mini-sleep and she’s ready to go again. Impressive. Third, I was having a coffee this morning, after she left, and noticed that a rear tyre on the truck was flat! I have two spares, one on a winder under the tray, which is a pain to get at, the other in the back of the truck. Guess which one I chose. Pulled it out and jacked up the truck, requiring a bit of mucking around with blocks, but all worked out. The wheels are bloody heavy. Luckily there was a Tyre Power joint open at Tully which is on the way to Millaa Millaa where we are now camped. We chucked the tyre in a big bucket of water, found the leak, which was in the wall near the tread, took the tyre off the rim, put a wall patch on it, banged it back on, good as new. It’s great when problems arise but are easily solved.
The caravan park we are in is old, small and has a lot of mozzies but is shady and quiet. All good. We are now on the Atherton Table Lands and the country is really nice. A bit like a tropical version of the Southern Highlands and our elevation right now is 840 metres, which is precisely the same as that of our front gate at home. They even have nice waterfalls, though not as good as ours. On the way here we graduated from cane country, through to bananas and now there are dairy and Angus cattle everywhere.
There was another question : How do you keep fit?
Well, the answer is that I’m sure to be losing fitness. I REALLY miss rowing but instead Spike and I go for a couple of walks a day. Heart rate never gets much over 80 so this is really not great. I brought a yoga mat but am unwilling to stick my arse in the air when surrounded by strangers. So, to date the yoga mat has been useful when crawling under the car and that’s about it.
But all things considered – wouldn’t be dead for quids.

“How do you keep fit?” A bit rude that they are asking you that question but not Anna.
