Day 27 – Riding on the Savannah Way

More climbing today. Started off on a gravel section, which was very nice. Garmin lied and was displaying some mild hills, not like the 13%+ I had to go through. Bastardo.

All white clothing today, including the helmet which has a reflective layer, and my brain was a lot cooler. Same elevation as yesterday, but I did not end up as tired. Last night I did a lot of stretching and I guess that helped.

I really like the country up here… It may be because of the vastness of it, and of course the horizon, but also it’s peaceful (yeah, the road trains…), and I was a bit envious as I rode past some of the stations, wondering how it’d be to live there. Goannas sunbaking on the road were a bit of a surprise, but they seem to scuttle off as I come closer, so no danger from them (yet!).

Ravenshoe (which I pronounced Raven-shoe, but I am told it’s got nothing to do with ravens and shoes) seems a very nice place – apparently the highest town in Queensland. I said to Justin that we must come back here (no bike!) and explore a bit more of the surroundings.

Camped in a gravel pit and we will follow the Savannah Way again tomorrow. Spag bol leftovers for lunch!

  1. Well done on the monster cycling 💪🏼👍🏼.
I can see the photos now but that are very small. Is there any way to make them larger?
