Day 18 – Og-somewhere
The Park we were in last night was absolute crap. Worst so far. We were jammed in and then a bloke with a boat arrived and squeezed in between us and the van next door. This was entirely the fault of the park owners who are not only greedy but stupid. When Spike and I went for a walk this morning we discovered another part of the park, right next to the river, that was paved, flat, had power and water but which was more or less empty. Oh well.
The bloke with the boat was called Paul and over a coffee this morning he gave me the complete medical history of his entire family – which was not encouraging.
The Fitzroy River has Crocodiles! But we escaped them this time. It is also has a tidal range of 5-6 metres according to my friend Claude.
Today we are camped at a place called the Ogmore Truck Stop, a big paddock next to a servo in the middle of nowhere. Who knew that the Ogmore Truck Stop is 17 Ks down a dirt road from the township of Ogmore. I didn’t but I do now after a”slight” detour. Like most detours, it turned out to be pretty interesting if a bit dusty. This is Brigalow and washaway country. Quite tough on the face of it and dry as hell at the moment but the cattle, Drought Masters I think – well, Indicus types for sure, seem to be in pretty good nick.
Anna is going very well and seems to be getting fitter every day. I foresee some big numbers coming up. We had figured on averaging 600 Ks per week but seem already to be close to 800. I’ll have to get her to slow down otherwise we’ll be home too soon and will have to act like grown-ups again.
