Day 21 – Riding through Mackay

A very nice day, riding almost all of it in flat country. Started off very busy on the Bruce Hwy, and took a slight detour before Mackay on a great country road. Ended up on a gravel patch where we are camped for the night – at least that’s what it’s looking like unless we get kicked out!

Snakes are starting to appear and you have to be quick recognising from a distance whether it’s a rope or a black snake. In any case, I try not to go on top of them, you never know. Well, one of them was indeed a black snake baking in the sun today. Narrowly avoided!

30c outside now, but riding was good enough with some wind against, not too bad though, cooling me down. My hair is getting gray by the day… and sunbleached. Different look coming soon!

I would have ridden some more, but I have a couple of work commitments this afternoon. I guess a bit more rest will be OK as I am a little anxious about the block after Townsville. A lot of climbing as we “turn left” as we have started to call it, heading west following the A1, rather cutting through to go to Mt Isa.

Saddle was OK but not life changing, tho’ all the bits held together nicely today. No dramas, yet!
