Started very cold again, not sure what’s wrong with this place… Problem is that I need to layer up, and then gradually peel off the clothes and I have got nowhere to put them, except the jersey pockets. I am sure I look like a camel with everything stuffed in my back.
As expected, it was a long ride with a lot of climbing. I saw 17% on my Garmin, but when I looked at the offline data, the steepest recorded climb had 20%+ peaks. What is wrong with this place #2!! I also now know that the translation of “scenic route” means hills hills and more hills. I should stop for a lookout up the top one of these days.
I took it easy given this was the last ride of this block. A few cyclists on the road today given it is a Saturday and a long w/e here in Queensland. Struggled a bit from 60km to find motivation on the climbs but slapped myself a few times, and kept going. I was getting more and more tired and I was a bit peeved for being so, until I realised that for about 4h I had drunk perhaps 1/3 of one bottle. More slapping myself for being so stupid. Climbing and descending make it hard to drink and eat, and I have turned off all the annoying alerts on the Garmin that tell me I am neglecting to drink, and eat. Unsurprisingly, as soon as I got some liquids and Snickers in, I started to feel better. Probably takes me about 20 minutes to get the effects. Note to self written (again).
Tomorrow is rest day, and this afternoon we stocked up the van with food and supplies. I will have to wax a couple of chains while I have full power in the van, and give the bike a good clean. I live in terror that something’s gonna break. I also have a stack of those nice little batteries for the shifters because I have been caught out before, but “it is not this day.”
The song that was stuck in my head for 6 hours today is yet another of Kelly Boesch’s ones – House of the Bizarre. Could not get rid of it.
