I had a fight with Google Maps today and I’m not sure who won. I followed the map, after checking first too, but finished up on a “shortcut” which took me through a road which started out bitumen, turned into a good, graded dirt road, then a worse one and then a single lane roughie, complete with corrugations, wash-aways, cattle grids and creeks to be forded. Actually it was fun and a 30 kilometre test for everything. When arrived at Rosedale, our camp for tonight, no cupboards had popped open, there was no dust in the van and everything was in its place. That’s what we paid the big bucks for. I took it pretty slowly as I was enjoying the country and also unwilling to deflate eight tyres for just a few k’s.
We are camped on a big dry oval next to the Royal Hotel in Rosewood. We’ll try the pub tonight. It looks good. We are still pretty close civilisation but the pub and town are reminiscent of Kingoonya in the far North of SA. There’s electricity available on the oval but no water. All good. We have used 90 and still have 180 litres on board so we’ll fill up tomorrow.
We are both experiencing increasing moments of happiness. It’s a fun life. Anna is putting the miles behind her and each day there’s a new holiday location for Spike and I to explore.
