Day 16 – Short

Today was a shorter ride for The Athlete, who continues to go well with no physical or (new) mental complications šŸ˜‰ We both took the same route for, I think, the first time and I passed her on the way. It was a good test because her flashing red lights and fluoro yellow jersey are very visible from a long way off. I imagine some of the truckies will transmit colourful phrases about cyclists on Channel 40, but at least they can see her clearly.

We have scored a very nice park by a big river at Benarby which is pretty much Gladstone. Lawn, trees, river, not crowded plus we get an ā€œensuiteā€; our own little shower and toilet room – all for $30! Caravan Park prices seem to vary wildly and without reason but no doubt that will change as the big franchise operators, like ā€œBig4ā€, move in to add rules and cost and extract profit. The real money seems to be in cabins and the caravan part is just to qualify for council regulations. But perhaps the real, real play is in real estate as many of these places are currently on the fringes of growing cities and perhaps, a bit like self storage businesses, are really a land-bank opportunity with a bit of income until the land is sold to a developer who will build a new suburb. Who knows. I’m just riffing.
